Last week we were completing some reticulation repairs in Dianella for Pauline, who was finding her outdated system was in need of some upgrades.
Pauline’s system was set out consisting of 2 stations that ran off mains water for her front grass and a small garden bed, and an outdated tap timer that ran a small piece of grass in her backyard. However, unfortunately nothing on either of the systems was functional.
We quickly diagnosed the front portion of the system wasn’t working due to the master solenoid unfortunately being seized shut, preventing any water to flow through. This is an all too common occurrence on older systems, with the average valve only lasting between 7 – 12 years.
The master solenoid is the nerve system to any reticulation system, they screw directly onto what’s called a cut in generally performed by a plumber that comes directly off your water meter, without it you simply can’t get water to your sprinklers!
We replaced the original master solenoid with an Irritrol 25mm hi-flow BSP valve for optimal water flow. We then moved onto the rear system and it was evident straight away that Pauline required a new tap timer, the original one had most certainly seen better days. We suggested the new Hunter Bluetooth Pro digital tap timer, easily programmed from an app on your phone so you never miss a watering day or time, however can still be operated manually from the unit itself with the simple push of a button.
Pauline’s system was back up and running again and she was delighted at how quickly we could resolve her issues in a timely and professional manner.
